Enemy Of The State Assessment

1. The range of camera shots and the background music, built up the tension and suspense. Camera shots such as close ups, extreme close ups, mid shots and long shots gives the scene a tense atmosphere. this scene also uses dramatically music  giving the influence of an edgy and anxious feeling. The atmosphere such as lighting and cutting back and forth to the men breaking in and Will Smith and Gene Hackman gives the scene a more eye catching feel to it. The point of the sequence is to grab the audiences attention to make them feel at the edge of their seat.

2. This shot shows the extreme close up on Will Smiths face also portraying his feelings and emotions allowing the scene to build in suspense, as this close up signifies the emotions of the character and also maintains the tense and anxious atmosphere. As the lighting in the room gives the feeling of gloom and sorrow luring the readers attention.

3. I chose 1:50 - 2:10, this clip starts of with the men with guns, the camera starts off at their feet as they are about to go into the room Will Smith and Gene Hackman are in. As they are cutting to and from the characters this jumping helps build the scene. There are many camera angle shots which create the tension and suspense such as the close up of Gene Hackman and the foot shot at the beginning of the men with guns.

4. The editing of the sequence fits in with the thriller genre as the setting of the scene and the fast paced camera shots allows the suspense to build up giving the sense of a thriller genre.
